The Rumpus Room
The Rumpus Room
MILWAUKEE'S FOOD & CRAFT BEER DESTINATION
The Rumpus Room is a European-style gastro pub in downtown Milwaukee that combines adventurous but approachable, comforting food and one of the best craft beer and cocktail programs in the city.
The Rumpus Room offers a laid-back casual dining experience and features a spacious bar, an intimate dining room, a charcuterie area and a separate private event space. The menu emphasizes local, sustainable ingredients whenever possible, and the bar offers more than 20 beers on tap and more than 100 in bottles, plus a craft cocktail menu that changes with the seasons.
One of the best restaurants in Milwaukee’s lively downtown entertainment district, Rumpus Room frequently welcomes theater-goers before or after a performance at the nearby Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.
The Rumpus Room hosts a regular brew master series in which breweries from around the country come in and host a dinner paired with their beers. A weekday happy hour spotlights Wisconsin products including meats, cheeses, tap brews and Old Fashioneds. An event space adjacent to The Rumpus Room called The Room @ Rumpus is an ideal space for classes, tastings and special dinners, as well as private functions such as rehearsal dinners, showers, corporate dinners and more.
The Rumpus Room was inspired by a bar of the same name owned by Joe Bartolotta’s father, Tudy in the 1950s. Tudy would take a trip to New York City twice each year and bring back the latest albums that hadn’t made their way to the Midwest yet. He’d let his loyal guests know via the US Mail “when the needle was going to drop,” and they’d pack in to hear the latest Frank Sinatra or Elvis Presley album.
The modern-day Rumpus Room, opened in 2011, pays tribute to Joe’s dad and to his effort to provide a community gathering place. The kitchen is led is by Executive Chef Andrew Koser.
