Sake Seminar with Sake Samurai, Monica Samuels

The team at The Rumpus Room is excited to host a truly unique event in The Room unlike any other in the city of Milwaukee – a Sake Seminar with Sake Samurai, Monica Samuels.

What is a Sake Samurai, you may ask? This title is bestowed to someone by the Sake Samurai Association based in Japan for their outstanding contribution to the understanding, appreciation or promotion of sake. As Japan’s national drink, sake has played a central role in Japanese life and culture for the past 2,000 years. Once found only in Japanese restaurants outside its native land, sake is now served in discerning shops and restaurants of all types.

Executive Chef Andrew Koser and his team will create light appetizers to enjoy along with the sakes offered during the hour-long seminar. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to sample and compare types of sakes and styles from Japan first-hand – each distinct in flavors and notes – and have your questions answered by a true Sake Samurai.

Konteki Pearls of Simplicity

Aromas of white flower and Asian pear followed by clean flavors
of honeydew, lemon, and a hint of licorice.
Finishes elegantly with rich minerality and rice texture.
Scallop Sashimi

Rihaku Dreamy Clouds

Bright and lean in the mouth, unlike many Nigori,
and the impact is chewy with sweet rice flavors intermingling
with the nutty and slightly fruity characteristics of the sake.
Pork and Shrimp Dumpling

Mantensei Star Filled Sky

Soft, honey-laced nose with a tad of fruitiness.
Good richness and overall balance, finishing dry.
Okonomiyaki

Tozai Blossom of Peace

Aromas of almond and marzipan followed by plum, apricot, and cherry on the palate.
The soft tartness and acidity balance the finish with a slightly sweet smoothness.
